I'm currently (re) reading A.B Facey's 'A Fortunate Life' and he details similar extremes of corporal punishment and yet also reflects on his life with gratitude.
Opal Whiteley sounds like such a magical soul! It's awful how she would have been treated in such a different era

Bert (A.B.) Facey's memoir is a wonderful read and like Opal Whiteley he seems like a wise child who is often more enlightened than those around him.
